Sermons of A. Powell Davies

The ministry of A. Powell Davies at All Souls church in Washington, D. C. from 1944 to 1957 extended far beyond the Washington metropolitan area. His deep belief in America¹s founding principles and his forthright stand on the many controversial issues of the day, expressed not only in his active leadership but also in his many direct, penetrating sermons, gained a worldwide audience. His Sunday sermons were often covered in the Monday newspapers and not infrequently received worldwide coverage.

Subscribers to the annual series of Dr. Davies¹ sermons were located throughout the United States and many foreign countries. His sermons appeared in magazine articles and even The Congressional Record. On occasion, as many as 10,000 copies of a single sermon were printed.

The archives of the A. Powell Davies Memorial Committee contain master copies of 144 printed sermons and 39 magazine articles. Duplicate copies of specific sermons may be provided upon request.

On the website of the Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church of Camp Springs, Maryland, appear 17 of Dr. Davies¹ sermons, which may be downloaded. (www.dmuuc.org/Davies/sermons.html)

Ten of his earlier sermons appear in The Faith of an Unrepentant Liberal and as its name implies, Five Favorites contains sermons that the Davies Memorial Committee recently selected as all-time favorites.
